COOLING - no problem here!
Chevy "Bel Air, 210, 150 - Crossflow Conversion" #82021 Auto Trans natural finish (polished by Don) and A/C condensor,
Spal Fans (Dual Electric Fans, bought from Be-Cool)
HEATING & A/C
MAN have we had the fun with this system! Had to send it back to get the heater tubes repositioned due to POOR workmanship. We also got the other parts that were missing from the kit.
Also the defogger switch was positioned wrong, lever on top of the door inside, and this also had to get fixed. Talked w/ their tech support again and they just said force it! (Nice huh!) They sent a replacement switch Just glad it was found before the thing was in for good and filled with coolant etc.!
Hoses: another nightmare! Vintage Air does not give you any great way to get the heater connections out the firewall. There is a lot of work to get this thing to fit and work properly. Vintage Air also has a CHEAP vacuum formed top-hat that goes on the firewall. Other manufactures MAY offer a better solutions like Hot Rod Air.
A/C Condensor: bought a Be-Cool condensor to match up with the radiator for another $220. The Condensor brackets made by Be-Cool and way over priced at $100 for a simple bent piece of aluminum w/ a few holes. Don custom made brackets that attach at the top & bottom for a fraction of the price and the are not big & ugly on the sides like the Be-Cool parts.
The Radiator Support Cover and the the A/C condensor polished frame where all custom made by Don.
HVAC unit has been custom painted tan to match the interior.
BOTTOM LINE - We wish we would have picked another manufacturer! Even though Vintage Air is high regarded our experience has been very sour. You would think for $1100 you would get everything right the first time. GUESS AGAIN! Our unit was produced in 2001 and they have changed the unit some but I still would be very careful.
Try others and research throughly and by directly from the Mfg so you can get support without any questions.
There are no guarantees on this one so do your research, ask questions and ask anyone that has installed an aftermarket A/C system. I know of NONE that bolt right in! All take considerable time no matter what the manufacturer says. If you don't believe me make sure you talk to some on that has actually installed one themselves and not a rep or dealer.
